The Veiled Rebecca by Benzoni

Sculpted in pure marble by the Italian neoclassical sculptor Giovanni Maria Benzoni in the late 19th century, the shy, bashful maid Rebecca stands, enveloped in a veil, in a captivating manner.

Among the believed four copies of the sculpture made by Benzoni, the statue at Berkshire Museum, Massachusetts lifts her veil with her right hand while the other copies do so with the left hand. The remarkable sculpture stands a major attraction at the Salar Jung Museum, Hyderabad (India).

The 21st century reproduction of the Veiled Rebecca intricately illustrates the texture and folds of the costume, lovingly accentuating every curve of her body. The Veiled Rebecca symbolizes simple innocence and purity.
