Hippocrates, the Father of Medicine

Hippocrates, a Greek physician revered as the Father of Medicine, composed the Hippocratic Oath, verses of which are sworn by the physicians even in today’s time.

The serpent, Asclepius, as the Greek called it, wound around the stump his right hand grasps symbolizes rejuvenation (as the snakes do by shedding their skin and renewal) and the dual nature of a physician’s work – dealing with sickness & health, life & death.
