Description and care

The USS Susquehanna was a sidewheel steam frigate launched in 1850 and played a key role in U.S. naval history. Most notably, it served as Commodore Matthew Perry’s flagship during the 1853 expedition that opened Japan to Western trade. The ship also saw action during the American Civil War, enforcing blockades against Confederate ports. Retired in 1868, the Susquehanna is remembered as a symbol of American naval power and diplomacy in the 19th century.
